I had a contractor install a new sidewalk and driveway, an push over two trees. One large pine and one medium maple. I still have two medium maples in my front yard. Well in pushing over the trees there were two large hoes from the root-balls, as well as he destroyed my current lawn with his equipment. Then he decided to fill the two holes and cover the lawn with the sand gravel material that he used as a base under the new concrete, I've supplied a couple pictures. Well I thought it would be difficult to establish a new lawn in this material, so I had 10 yards of topsoil delivered to cover the sand gravel mixture, the topsoil is about 4" thick now.
Now I am at the point of applying lawn seed and would appreciate any help you can give. It is early October and I would like to apply seed before winter and let the snow do the watering and germination. I removed some hedges a few years ago and planted seed before the end of October and that seed came in great, but I no longer remember what brand of seed I used. my lawn seems to be a bluegrass mixture. Was wondering if you can suggest a seed store or farm locally that sells a bluegrass mix that would grow good in my 48178, Oakland county area. There are so many different strains of lawn seed that i have no idea which will do good in my area, that's why i feel if I buy locally, they will be able to advise me on what mix they sell, to buy. I have put a lot of manual work into fixing my lawn, and don't want to ruin it with the wrong seed. I do not have a sprinkler system, but am at the bottom of a hill. I want a bluegrass but also would like a low mantainence lawn. Normally other than mowing, and hiring a lawn service to fertilize I don't do much to my lawn, I'm not lazy, just not knowledgable about plants.
