Morning glory invaded my strawberry beds about 3 years ago. I constantly remove, but this year I've lost the war. Any suggestions? I think I may need to remove strawberries (bare root) and poison the soil. Can I do this now? How long can the plants survive in a fridge?

My day lilies look terrible this year. We did have an unusually cold winter and they probably do need thinning out. The leaves are yellowy, not a healthy green. A friend told me they probably need iron. What do you suggest?

Okame cherry tree is not flowering or leafing #177015

This question concerns an ornamental cherry tree, an Okame, that is not yet flowering or leafing out. I live in Havertown, PA, and the other Okames on the street have already flowered and are now leafing out, but not mine (which is approximately 11 years old). The buds have remained small and a few show a hint of pink, but not many. Last year, after it flowered, I noticed that although it leafed out fully, the leaves were not as big as usual and they dropped off the tree earlier than usual, though still in the fall. Any thoughts on what is ailing the tree and what recourse there might be? Is it safe to plant another Okame nearby? If not, what is the waiting period? Is there somewhere that I can take a cutting from the tree for diagnosis? Please advise. Many thanks.

It is about 12 feet tall now and base of the trunk is about 3 Inches.

Why are my young Quaking Aspen trees leaning over?  They seem very "heavy" on top and have started to lean over, or bend almost in a "U-shape"?  I have a clump of 3 that were planted about 3 years ago and have been thriving.  Then in the last couple of week and especially this week they started to bend over, as if they were weighted by a heavy snow fall, except it hasn't snowed in about 6 weeks and they weren't affected back then.  I don't know what to do? please help.

Just wondering if you have an answer for why my tree is suddenly struggling.  It was healthy and growing great, then the leaves started turning brown around the edges and it seems to just keep getting worse. I love my tree and don't want to lose it!  We planted it this spring, so it is relatively new. HELP!  One of my bushes is showing similar signs of stress.  Am I watering too much?

I have a field (25 acres) dry land 17 inches of rain per year. My field has a variety of soils including clay. I plan to plant sainfoin along with a mixture of grasses that will grow in the clay areas. 1 How may pounds per acre of sainfoin should i plant? 2 What grasses to you recommend? 3 Will sainfoin produce nitrogen that the grasses will be able to utilize or will i need to fertilize with nitrogen for the grass? There is no sainfoin in my area and I am having difficulty finding information that will help me. Thank you for you help.

I have a Red Maple. I noticed some dryness on the tips of some leaves. The Internet told me to check for Girdling. I did and it is happening. I've had the tree for three years and I bought it in a plastic container. Can you tell if the tree has a chance of surviving based on these pictures. As you can see there is one big root growing the right way. Any help would be appreciated.

Trying to figure out what to do with my lawn. We just moved in and the previous owners seriously neglected the yard. My front yard was a lot of dirt, which I put edging up in a fun shape, mulched and planted shrubs and some flowers. We need to figure out how to grow grass best and what to do around three front yard trees. The big spruce has mostly dirt under it with no weeds even so I'm not sure if anything will grow there. I don't like a ton of color, but I'm thinking hostas and maybe day lilies under it. I'm looking for as many suggestions as possible and don't mind working hard. Also, around a large rock, looking to do something possibly as well. Thanks.

We lost all of our otto luyken late last summer in addition to numerous other shrubs---over the course of one-two weeks. The ones that survived are growing poorly. The site faces north and our yard has a high water table. I suspect root rot, but can't imagine that they all died that quickly. We are planning to re-plant the bed this spring, but want to avoid this situation again. Do you have suggestions on how to continue amending the soil or choosing an alternate plant? The bed runs along the entire front of our rancher, so the shrubs have some room to spread out and we need them for decorative purposes. We need something that is deer resistant. Thanks!

We've had problems with squash bugs, Japanese beetles, aphids, cucumber beetles,cabbage butterflies (do I have that right?), vine borers, June beetles and blister beetles to name a few. We're hoping this hard winter will put a hurtin' on some of these pests, but I'd like to get ahead of them this growing season We've heard about use of trichogramma wasps and beneficial nematodes for natural control of insect pests in the garden. We have also heard of using milky spore for the grubs of Japanese beetles. We are really hoping to go the organic route. Can you direct us on the use of these organisms or any other beneficial organisms for pest control? Marianne in Queenstown
