Hello. We are looking to put in a vegetable garden this spring, probably 12" high boxes that sit right on the ground and would allow for growth into the current yard. We've never used fertilizers or yard treatments for the 6 years we've lived here, but the plot borders our fence that is right next to a church that we've seen treat their grass. I'm worried about overspray that may have contaminated the area, and am wondering how I might test for that. Going forward, we intend to install a privacy fence rather than the current chain link so I'd hope that would help the situation. Can you help me understand what I can do to ensure the soil is safe and we can plant food there?
